Biography

Ms. Jessica Malinchak is a junior at California State University, Fullerton, working on a Biological Science major with a concentration in molecular biology. She is also working on a minor in Mathematical Education. Ms. Malinchak has a passion for science and has the goal of becoming a secondary educator. She has had six years of experience working with young teens as a summer camp director and tutor for biology and algebra. Ms. Malinchak has participated in a science education research group under the supervision of Dr. Barbara Gonzalez, Professor at California State University, Fullerton. As a research group member, she has had the opportunity to review primary readings on student learning and their misconceptions, learn various data analysis techniques, and assist group, undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects. She has not started her own research project, but has an interest in science education and molecular biology. Ms. Malinchak is a new TaPP (Teaching as a Primary Profession) scholar as of June 2011, and she receives scholarship money to help implement knowledge, experience, and training to become a committed teacher in a high-need middle or high school. As a college student, she works hard in every class in the hope that more opportunities will open to help fulfill her career goals of becoming a teacher that sparks fascination and knowledge into students.
